My stories about the 1997 Porsche Carrera S
From the front the Carrera S, 4S and turbo all look the same. In my opinion it is a much nicer look than the regular Carrera. The difference being the latter has one vent with a horizontal bar down low and the former has the three vents and no horizontal bar. Plus, this one is the European version without the awful bumperettes.
First thing I bought for my current US 1996 Carrera is new Euro version front and rear bumper covers to eliminate the bumperettes. Plus an upgrade to the S version.
My first Porsche was similar to this one, albeit a 1996 Carrera 4S. Not many, if any, changes from 1996 to 1997. This was back in Australia so no bumperettes there either. Yes, I really dislike them that much…
Loved that car although sometimes didn’t drive it for weeks. When I did, I went a long way. The last major trip was Melbourne, Victoria to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. About 2000km each way. Trip was cut short because I had an offer from the Porsche dealer to buy it for their anniversary celebrations. At the time I thought it was a good offer. The alternative was to put it in storage because I was about to move to the US.
That was back in 2012. Probably should have put it in storage because shortly after the values increased and it has been for sale recently for double my selling price.
