Now the Ferrari F40 is my ultimate car. I’m a Porsche person, so that admission costs me something. Some say the F40 was Maranello’s answer to the technologically advanced 959. To me it shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath — the 959 was an engineering exercise with everything on it, and the F40 was the opposite argument entirely. Following the 288 GTO was always going to be a huge task. The F40 managed it and then some.
Race car for the street gets used too often, but in this case it is valid. A carbon-Kevlar tub, a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V8, no carpet, no stereo and pull-cord door releases. It was the first production road car past 200mph, and the last car Enzo Ferrari signed off before he died. Only 1,315 were built.
Which is why the artwork here is the F40 seen from directly behind, and not from the front like most of the others on this site. The F40 is one of very few cars you can identify from the back at a glance: the slatted engine cover, the quad round tail lights sunk into a full-width black panel, the wing sitting above all of it. Draw that shape and nobody needs a badge to tell them what it is.
Values are now well past a million in every currency that matters, and with 1,315 built — fewer now, given how people drive them — even the money might not be enough to get you one quickly. Until that changes, the closest most of us get is a four-inch one stuck to a laptop lid.
Ferrari F40 Stickers
Kiss cut, removable, waterproof vinyl, in matte, gloss or transparent. The gloss and matte versions carry a thin white border around the car; the transparent one has a clear border instead, which is the one to pick for a dark laptop lid or a black water bottle — the red reads properly against a dark surface with nothing boxed in around it.
Size matters more with this artwork than most. At small the tail light clusters and the black rear panel still read from across a desk, so it works on a laptop, a notebook or a bottle. Go to extra large and the engine cover slats become the detail you actually notice, which is the point at which it stops being a sticker and starts being a poster on the inside of a toolbox lid.

Ferrari F40 Magnets
Die-cut from 20 mil or 0.5 mm vinyl, flexible and long lasting, with a narrow white border following the outline of the car. Worth knowing: this is the one piece of F40 artwork drawn without the shadow underneath. The sticker and the pin versions both sit on a shadow; the magnet is cut clean, so on a fridge door or a filing cabinet it reads as the car itself rather than a picture of one.
A fridge is the obvious home for it. If that gets vetoed by whoever else lives there, the filing cabinet in the home office or the tool box in the garage both work, and you will see it more often in the garage anyway.

Ferrari F40 Pins
Round pins made from UV-resistant, scratch-resistant Mylar, with the standard pin fitting on the back. Unlike the stickers and magnets, the pin doesn’t cut the car out — it sits the rear view on a deep red ground, shadow and all, so the round format frames the car rather than fighting it.
Flag pins are all well and good. A small F40 on a jacket lapel, a bag strap or a cap says something more specific about you.
