The E30 predates the mobile phone as an ordinary object entirely. There is something pleasing about a car built for a world of paper maps ending up on the back of the thing that replaced them.
It also reproduces well, which is the practical half of the argument: flat panels, hard edges, nothing that needs subtle shading to make sense at this size.
